Hello Fresh

Round two of meal kit subscriptions with HelloFresh and I was a little weary of cooking again. Blue Apron got me in the kitchen and the food was good…but it was tiring cooking and cleaning 😛 When the box arrived, I was pleased that the meals were separated in bags so I didn’t have to check that the garlic was needed in one meal or in all of the meals.

First on the list was the Italian Ciabatta Cheeseburger. I made this with the boyfriend and thank God because the recipe needed a can opener and I don’t own one…boyfriend had to use a knife haha it worked…but dangerous so I just recommend that folks get the basic kitchen utensils 🙂 Anyways, I did a lot of the produce cleaning and chopping and the boyfriend cooked the meat (so far every time I’ve cooked red meat, the fire alarms have gone off teeheehee). The burger was DELISH! I forgot to take a picture before I devoured it…but here’s boyfriend’s half eaten one 🙂

Next up was the Parmesan Crusted Fish. I admit I was a little daunted since fish kind of smells…but this turned out to the easiest of the three meals in my opinion. It was bread crumbs and cheese crumbled together on the fish and a quick bake in the oven. The veggies actually took the most time due to having to peel and chop, but carrots and potatoes are some of the only veggies I like (broccoli is the favorite!) so that was easy. Overall this was my favorite meal!

Last was the Maple-Glazed Pork Chops. Okay I admit, I usually don’t read the instructions all the way through before cooking…and sometimes I just skim as I cook. This has been in my favor thus far, but this round, I totally didn’t realize the maple syrup was needed in the sweet potato mash as well as the glaze so I had to wing it and just threw in brown sugar in the mash. It tasted fine…but I bet it would have been better if I used the syrup they provided whoops 😛 Anyways this meal was the most forgiving in my opinion which makes it a favorite.

Overall, HelloFresh, was better than Blue Apron since it took the guessing out of what was needed and it took me about 30-40 minutes to cook versus Blue Apron recipes took me 45-60 minutes. I still have two more subscriptions to try (Plated and Gobble) before I finally commit to one, but so far so good! Till our next kitchen visit xo
