Pokémon Cafe

When we planned to go to Japan, the one thing my husband really wanted to do was go to the Pokemon cafe in Tokyo. I also watched Pokémon back in elementary school so I would also have fun since I knew some of the characters.

Now wanting to go and actually getting reservations is two different things! Pokémon Cafe opens reservations for 31 days beforehand at 6pm Japan time. This meant we would need to be awake and on the site at 1am pst to try. We had three days in Tokyo so we had 3 chances. First night, hubby tried on his own and he said the site kept crashing when he would click in so resulted in failure. Second night, we both tried and I swear, I blinked and all the spots were taken immediately. We got nervous as the next night was our last chance. Third times the charm because hubby worked some magic and we got it!

Our reservation was for one of our last days in Japan and it was a jam packed day since we were staying in Shibuya which is about 40 minutes west of Tokyo so we decided to spend the entire day in Tokyo. We grabbed some Yoshinoya, visited a Temple, checked out Don Quijota and just wandered around and then tada it was time for our reservation! We went about an hour early so we can check out the Pokémon center which had special goods that are only sold there. Hubby doesn’t like extra stuff so he was hesitant to buy anything, but I’m like we’re only here once! So we gave our kiddo the option of multiple Pokémon plushies and he LOVED Snorlax! So we bought him one 🙂

Then it was time to be seated! When seated, you have 90 minutes to order and enjoy a little Pikachu show. When we entered, we were given a sticker each of some fish with a random Japanese phrase. We were told if we ordered their new “sushi” entree, we had a chance to win a prize. So of course we had to order and we thought cool we have 4 chances to win! But no! We could only choose one of our stickers to see if it matched with the sushi entree so we let our 8 month old choose the sticker and BAM! We won!!

We also ordered a drink each and a Pikachu curry dish and Snorlax lunch. The portions aren’t huge, but overall the food was decent. It definitely is for the cute vibes and I’m all for it!

Then the main event was Pikachu came out and did a little routine which was super cute and all in Japanese so if you don’t know Japanese like us, you won’t know what’s going on, but that’s okay! We were surprised by how much our baby boy was loving it!

Overall Pokemon Cafe is a must see at least once if you have kiddos (or adults like my hubby) who are Pokémon fans! It’s a fun ambiance and they sell special items only available there and I’m a sucker for limited edition stuff so had to get a few 😅

Till next time Pokemon cafe xo
