Whip Dessert & Cafe

Since we recently moved to Orange County, I’ve been wanting to find local high tea places since high tea is my thing! A friend recommended Whip which recently opened within the past year so I went to check it out.

It’s in a plaza and the signage is pretty small so just know when Google Maps says “you’re here”, you probably are, but it’s between bigger signage. When we entered, I immediately loved the pastel suede and velour decor! High tea happens upstairs and regular cafe/coffee shop is downstairs. We had made a reservation and we’re seated immediately. They have two options: afternoon tea ($55) and modern elevated tea ($70). We were intrigued by what modern elevated tea would be so we went for it even though it did feel somewhat pricey.

The biggest difference is the modern elevated tea has waygu and caviar! It’s definitely elevated and feels so fancy! Along with the order you can choose a specialized coffee or a tea. We decided to get coffee since they seem more interesting than the normal tea pot. My friend got the matcha latte and I got the ube coffee with oat milk.

Our drinks and food arrived quickly! Everything was so well plated! The waygu sandwich felt a bit “meaty” for mid day tea, but was yummy. Our favorite was the caviar egg sandwich! It was light and just overall the most flavorful. Next I loved the truffle mushroom and cheese puff pastry. The other cucumber sandwich was a little dry…

Next we ate desserts! The meringue wasn’t our favorite, it was too sweet and messy to eat. The macaron was yummy! The famous waygu cookie was interesting. It’s not actually meat – just the lard was used in it so it has a meaty buttery taste which was okay. Nothing to write home about. The Madeline’s were the perfect snack size and we loved the scone and banana bread.

Overall we thought this spot was cute! I don’t think I’ll go back often for the tea service just because it’s quite pricey, but would go back for their specialized coffees and just a cute place for photos xo
